Formula 1: the promising update of Franco Colapinto’s Williams for the US GP

The Argentine pilot Franco Colapinto will have an update on his car during the United States Grand Prix of Formula 1 which will take place on October 20 at the Circuit of the Americas.

It is about an improvement in the front suspensionwhich was already tested in the Singapore GP by his Williams teammate, the Thai Alexander Albon.

This update causes the car to lose weight and generates an improvement in aerodynamic flow towards the rear.

In this regard, Williams technical director, Pat Fry, detailed: “We modified almost the entire suspension, including the brake ducts. Each small adjustment led to another adjustment, so there are numerous changes”.

And he gave more details to the Motorsport media: “We changed almost everything, from the suspension elements themselves to the brake cooling ducts, everything is different.”

These changes were already implemented during Singapore in Albon’s car and in his spare, although Fry explained that “it is not the ideal track to see how the innovations work, especially because it is one of the circuits in which the factor weight is less important and in which high speeds are not reached”.

Finally, he announced that “in terms of the aerodynamic part, this new suspension is a reasonable step. We have also managed to reduce some weight. But it is clear that a solution does not completely change the car.”

Despite not having this update in the last race, Colapinto was very close to the time of his Williams teammate in qualifying, where he finished twelfth, just seven thousandths behind Albon.

Colapinto’s next race will be on October 20, when the United States Grand Prix will be held at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
