Max canceled the animated series “Velma” after two seasons

While there won’t be a third season, a Halloween special debuted on the streaming platform recently.

The animated series for adults Max Velma has been canceled after two seasons.

The series starred Mindy Kaling and was based on the beloved “Scooby-Doo” character. The show’s second season debuted in April. The series served as a prequel to Scooby-Doofeaturing Velma and the other members of Mystery Inc. as high school students solving mysteries in the town of Crystal Cove.

The voice cast included: Glenn Howerton, Sam Richardson, Constance Wu, Russell Peters, Melissa Fumero, Sarayu Blue, Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Cherry Jones, Frank Welker, Nicole Byer, Gary Cole, Andia Winslow and Sara Ramirez.

Max decided to cancel Velma

“Over the last two seasons, Mindy [Kaling] and charlie [Grandy] “They have created an incredibly fun and fresh world within the iconic crime novel franchise,” Max said in a statement. “While we will not be moving forward with another season of the series, we thank them for their captivating coming-of-age narrative, unmatched clues, and hilarious antics.”

Velma was developed by Charlie Grandywho also served as executive producer. Kaling also executive produced alongside Howard Klein and Elijah Aron. Jessica Kumai Scott served as co-executive producer, while Amy Winfrey served as supervising producer. Kandace Reuter and Rick Williams produced, with Moss Perricone and Greg Gallant co-producing.

While there will not be a third season of Velma, a Halloween special debuted on Max on October 3.

“Velma” proved polarizing from the start, with the first season garnering just a 38% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
