In the midst of the crisis, San Lorenzo solved a problem: Miguel Ángel Russo is the new coach

The coach Miguel Ángel Russo will be the new technical director of Saint Lawrence for the remainder of the year and will sign a contract until December 2025 in what will be his second cycle at the club.

The former coach of Rosario Central was getting ready financially with the leaders of the Boedo team and finally accepted the position, so he traveled from the city of Santa Fe to Buenos Aires and tomorrow he will meet with the directors.

This will be the second step for the Lanús-born coach after his experience in the 2008/09 season, one of the most remembered by fans because he reached the end of the 2008 Apertura and lost in a triangular match against Boca and Tigre and then were eliminated in the group stage of the 2009 Copa Libertadores.

Russo’s emotional departure from Rosario Central

More than two months ago, the experienced coach left his position at Rosario Central for personal reasons and left after a year and a half in charge of the team where he won the 2023 League Cup.

After the heroic qualification against Internacional de Porto Alegre in the Copa Sudamericana and the bad start in the Professional Soccer League, the 68-year-old coach held a meeting with the directors regarding the transfer market and left the club.

In a video, Russo sent a farewell message to the Rosario Central fans: “One, with pain, understands that it is time to step aside. I think it is the best for the club, at the football level. “You always look for a club in a different way, that continues to grow. Thank the players, the club staff, Gonzalo and Carolina for everything they have done for the club and what they are doing.”

“I understand, due to a decision of mine, that this is the moment and the way. With pain, because one does not like to make these decisions. The club is above all things. Everything is going to go well, better. I send you a big hug. I thank you for all the love and affection,” he added.
