The Brazilian star had planned to give the gift to McCartney that same year, but the opportunity for them to meet never materialized. After that, Pelé’s representative for a long time, Pepito Fornosand the soccer player’s sister, Luiza Nascimentothey looked for a way to get the shirt to its rightful owner.

Now, ahead of their second São Paulo stadium show, which took place as part of their 2024 ‘Got Back’ world tour, McCartney received the shirt, five years after it was first signed.
In one photograph, the Beatles icon can be seen holding the t-shirt, which reads: “Paul, keep going. I love you. Pele.”
The gift was presented to him at the Allianz Parque stadium before his performance last night (October 16). The place is also the home of Palmeiras Football Club. In a statement, Macca said he would “treasure” the gift left to him by the late footballer who died in 2022 after a battle with cancer. He was 82 years old.
Paul McCartney’s record in Brazil
That night’s concert marked their 39th concert in Brazil and holds the record for the highest number of tickets sold by an international artist in the country. This milestone is largely due to his performance at Rio’s Maracanã stadium in 1990, which drew 184,000 people, broke box office records, and set a world record for the largest audience at a concert.
The tour “Got Back” McCartney’s tour will continue through South America, the United Kingdom and Europe over the coming weeks.
