In the “pink month” they warn about breast cancer: 73 cases per 100,000 women

Worldwide, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. According to the World Health Organization (WHO)in 2020 they were diagnosed 2.3 million new cases and more than 685,000 women died from this cause.

However, thanks to advances in medicine and awareness campaigns, survival rates have improved markedly, especially through early detection such as regular self-checkups and mammograms.

When the breast cancer It is detected in early stages, the five-year survival rate is close to 90%. Mammograms are one of the most effective tools, as they allow tumors to be detected before they are palpable, which considerably increases the chances of successful treatment.

Essen, leading company in the design, development, manufacturing and marketing of high-quality products for the kitchen, with presence in 5 Latin American countries – Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru – is one of the companies that actively joins this cause.

“In Essen we are deeply committed to raising awareness and preventing breast cancer, and for three years, we have been active protagonists of Pink October. This 2024, we join the NGO Macma, an organization that works tirelessly on breast cancer awareness and prevention,” account Helga Yasci, director of Essen.

That’s why, Throughout the month of October, a percentage of sales of accessories such as savarins and pudding bowls will be donated to help finance free mammograms.

“We know that access to medical studies is key, and many women do not have the necessary resources to undergo this examination on a regular basis. We want to be part of the change,” adds Helga.

Breast cancer: data that reinforces the importance of prevention:

  • Self-knowledge and self-examination. According to studies, about 40% of breast cancer cases are detected by women themselves when they notice an abnormality in their breasts. Therefore, in addition to mammograms, it is important to self-examine and be alert to any changes.
  • Age of highest risk. The risk of developing breast cancer increases with age, especially after age 40. Therefore, it is essential that women from that age carry out periodic check-ups.
  • Risk factors. Although 70% of diagnosed women have no apparent risk factors, some such as family history, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, and excessive alcohol consumption can increase the chances of developing the disease.

“Every small contribution adds up and that is why Essen invites us to be part of this cause, your purchase, this October, can make a difference. Let’s give back to breast cancer with awareness, prevention and solidarity!”, the company stressed.
