Attention Boca and River: Inter Miami’s classification to the Club World Cup was made official

He Inter Miami of Lionel Messi will compete in the first edition of the new Club World Cup in 2025 with the place reserved for a team from the United States as the host country, announced this Saturday the FIFA.

Gianni Infantinopresident of world soccer’s governing body, made the announcement at Inter Miami’s stadium after Messi’s team beat the New England Revolution 6-2 and broke the MLS regular season points record.

The team led by Gerardo Martino will also host the opening game of the World Cup on June 15, 2025 at Hard Rock Stadium, the home of the American football Miami Dolphins, Infantino also announced.

Inter Miami had already secured first place overall in the MLS regular season, which is recognized with the Supporter’s Shield trophy.

“In this way, I am pleased to announce that, as one of the best clubs in the world, you have the well-deserved honor of participating in the new FIFA Club World Cup 2025 as the host club representing the United States”stated the leader.

Messi, eight-time winner of the Ballon d’Or, will thus be one of the great attractions of the first expanded edition of the Club World Cup, which will have 32 participants.

Boca, River, Real Madrid, Manchester City, PSG and Bayern Munich are among the main teams qualified for the ecumenical tournament.

In addition, among the South Americans there will be the Brazilians Flamengo, Fluminense and Palmeiras while for Concacaf there will be the Mexicans Monterrey, León and Pachuca.

The only place still vacant for the tournament will be for the winner of the Copa Libertadores.
