The Government enabled participation in military activities through Decree 978/2024 published in the Official Gazette. As they explained, both exercises are carried out annually with the purpose of “increasing combined training and the interoperability of the Argentine Armed Forces with the Armed Forces of the Federative Republic of Brazil and of the Republic of Chileand other intervening countries as the case may be.”

In detail, the “Cruzex” exercise will take place from November 3 to 15 at the Natal Air Base, Brazil. For this purpose, 54 Argentine troops and aircraft will participate, including a Hercules KC-130 aircraft and four IA-63 Pampa II and III aircraft.
This military meeting aims to standardize operational protocols between countries and facilitate future collaborations in multinational missions. It will also be used for members of the Argentine Air Force to learn from the “tactics, techniques and procedures of other Air Forces.”
What is Viekaren, the maritime exercise that will take place in the Beagle Channel
For his part, the Viekaren it’s a military exercise that has been carried out annually since 1999. As detailed by the Government, its purpose is to “increase combined training and interoperability between both Navies, seeking to improve the responsiveness in operations facing an emergency within the framework of the safeguarding of human life at sea, as well as in the event of marine pollution, on the basis of maritime traffic control.”
The training activities are framed in the 40th anniversary of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Argentina and Chile and will take place from November 4 to 10 in the Beagle Channel. For this, the Government enabled the presence of troops and ships from both navies, highlighting the Oceanic Patrol Vessel ARA “Bouchard” and other Argentine vessels.
Finally, the Government warned: “Non-participation in the aforementioned exercises would significantly affect the training of our Armed Forces.” in combined operations with other Armed Forces of the continent, as well as bilateral and multilateral relations in the region, in response to the commitments assumed by the Argentine Republic.”
