France: Prosecutor’s Office requested 5 years in prison and disqualification for far-right leader Marine Le Pen

The french prosecutor’s office requested this Wednesday the 5th years of prison and disqualification against the far-right leader and former presidential candidate Marine Le Pen for a case of embezzlement of public funds when she was an MEP.

Le Pen56, is being tried by the Paris court along with her National Rally party (RN) and 24 other people, accused of paying employees of her party with money from the European Parliament between 2004 and 2016. The verdict is expected to be handed down at the end of November.

The former far-right candidate denied that a “system of embezzlement” existed and described the prosecution’s request as “violence” and “indignity.” The prosecution requested a provisional execution of the sentence. This means it should count from the moment of conviction, even if Le Pen appeals.
