The prime minister of the transitional government of Syria, Islamist Mohamed al Bashirstated this Wednesday that the new Executive – after the fall of Bashar al Assad- does not have “problems with any state, party or sect” that has distanced itself from the “bloody regime” and urged Syrian refugees abroad to return to their homeland.
In an interview with an Italian newspaper, Al Bashir outlined a ambitious national reconstruction planpromising a future of justice and hope for a country devastated by more than a decade of civil war.
Mohamad Al Bashir urged refugees to return to Syria
“We have empty houses, a destroyed economy and a country that needs to be rebuilt from scratch,” he stated in an interview with Corriere della Sera. Furthermore, the country’s financial situation is critical since they only have Syrian pounds “which are worth almost nothing” according to the president since “one US dollar buys 35,000 of our currency”.
Among its priorities, two strategic objectives stand out: restore security and stability in all cities and repatriate millions of Syrian refugees. About these, he said: “Syria is now a free country that has regained its pride and dignity. Come back. “We need to rebuild and we need everyone’s help.”
“The misguided actions of certain Islamist groups have led many people, especially in the West, to associate Muslims with terrorism,” he declared. “Precisely because we are Islamic, we will guarantee the rights of all people and communities in Syria.”

Who is Mohamad Al Bashir, the rebel leader of the transition in Syria
The politician Mohamad Al Bashir was appointed as transitional leader in Syriaafter the seizure of power in Damascus by the rebels. He made his leap into politics after the conflict called “Arab Spring” and his last recent position was that of head of the Salvation Government, on behalf of the Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS) group.
He entered politics after a series of popular uprisings in 2011 against Al Assad, in the so-called “Arab Spring.”. Al Bashir was appointed last January as head of the Salvation Government, a political branch linked to the HTS whose headquarters are in Idlib.
Before carrying out this position, it was Minister of Development and Humanitarian Affairs under the then head of that administration in Idlib, Ali Keda. During that period of time, he focused on modernizing the war-torn region and addressing the humanitarian needs of the approximately three million people in that province.
War in Syria: Bashar Al Assad’s regime fell and rebels took Damascus
After almost 54 years, Syria will no longer have the Assad dynasty in government. The fall of Bashar Al Assad’s regime this Sunday put a dramatic end to his almost 14-year struggle to remain in power, while his country fragmented in a brutal civil war converted into an indirect battlefield between regional and international powers. Meanwhile, the Government had recommended citizens not to travel to the conflict zone..
The leader’s fall marked a stark contrast to his first months as Syria’s unlikely president in 2000, when many expected him to be a young reformer after three decades of his father’s tight control.
