ANMAT prohibited the sale of two brands of honey and another of cheese due to health risks

The National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT), prohibited the preparation, fractionation and marketing throughout the national territory, and on online sales platforms for the products Argentine mozzarella cheese brand Tambería Hollandesa, sweet sauce based on corn syrup and honey brand San Isidro, and sweet sauce based on corn syrup and honey brand Las Lilacs. The measure became official after its publication in the Official Gazette.

Both products lacked the health records corresponding turning out to be illegal articles. Furthermore, both were falsely labeled by the producing companies.

The ANMAT banned two brands of honey

The investigation of the production of the product began when the Santa Fe Food Safety Agency (ASSAL) of the province of Santa Fe sent a notification to the national administration in relation to the marketing of both products made with honey.

Subsequently, the ANMAT intervened in the process and explained that “because these are products that cannot be reliably and clearly identified as produced, processed and/or divided in a specific establishment, they cannot be manufactured anywhere in the country, nor marketed or sold in the territory of the Republic”.

Thus, the national administration also decided to prohibit the production, fractionation and marketing throughout the national territory, and on online sales platforms, of the aforementioned food products. Lastly, also disqualified the sale in Argentine territory of those articles that “exhibit on their labels the health records RNE N° 21-009269 and/or RNPA N°21-036648 and/or RNPA N° 21-039213 and/or RNPA N° 21-098979”.

The ANMAT banned a brand of cheese

In detail, the investigation began from a notification from the General Directorate of Control of the Food Industry of the province of Córdoba in relation to the marketing of the product labeled as: “ARGENTINO MOZZARELLA CHEESE brand TAMBERIA HOLANDESA, SALE BY PESO”. This arose as a result of a complaint from a consumer who stated that he wanted to verify the veracity of the records displayed on the label of the cited article.

Given this, the General Directorate of Control of the Food Industry of the province of Córdoba reported that it verified in its information database that the number of National Establishment Registry (RNE) No. 040020.77 and the National Food Product Registry (RNPA) No. 04022992 displayed on the label of the investigated product are non-existent.

The ANMAT also prohibited the marketing of the product through online platforms.

As a consequence, the ANMAT detailed: “since it is a product that cannot be reliably and clearly identified as produced, processed and/or divided in a specific establishment, it cannot be manufactured anywhere in the country. neither marketed nor sold in the territory of the Republic”.

“In order to protect the health of citizens against the consumption of illegal products, whenever they are food products that lack registration, which is why their traceability, manufacturing conditions, and quality cannot be guaranteed with adequate levels of control under the conditions established by current regulations. and its safety,” they added from the national administration.

Due to the lack of product manufacturing traceabilitythe ANMAT defined prohibiting the “preparation, fractionation and marketing throughout the national territory and on online sales platforms of the product: “ARGENTINO MOZZARELLA CHEESE brand TAMBERIA HOLANDESA, ESTABLISHMENT: RNE: 040020.77, RNPA: 04022992”, in any presentation , lot and expiration date”.

Finally, the administration also vetoed the marketing of those items that display health records RNE 040020.77 and/or RNPA 04022992 on their labels, as they are falsely labeled products that use non-existent registration numbers.
