Pachuca made history and will play the final of the Intercontinental Cup against Real Madrid

Pachuca of Mexico achieved a historic pass to the final of the Intercontinental Cup 2024, by winning 6-5 in the penalty shootout Al Ahly of Egypt after having tied 0-0 in regulation time.

In a duel played at stadium 974 in Qatar, the Mexican team showed mettle and determination to overcome the Egyptians and now they will face real Madrid in the last chapter of the tournament, next Wednesday.

The match was dynamic but also frictional, where both teams played a physical game, with tight marking and few freedoms for individuality. Al Ahly generated the clearest chances in the first half, demanding Carlos Moreno three times, who responded with confidence to keep his goal clean.

Despite the pace, neither team managed to break the score in regulation 90 minutes, so the match went into overtime.

In extra time, emotions grew and Pachuca had a great opportunity with a shot by Oussama Idrissi that was deactivated by goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy.

For its part, the Egyptian team scored the goal in a one-on-one play by Kahraba that was masterfully resolved by goalkeeper Moreno. Despite the intensity, the scoreboard remained motionless, forcing the finish from the 12 steps.

The penalty shootout had drama on both sides, as Al Ahly had a two-goal lead after Mohamed El-Shenawy saved Salomón Rondón’s penalty and Borja Bastón missed his. But then the Pachuca goalkeeper did the same against Kahraba, while Omar Kamal also executed his goal poorly, leading the finish to mata mata shots.

In the last shots from the penalty spot, Faber Gil scored for the Mexican team but Khaled Abdelfattah sent his shot to the crossbar for Al Ahly, sealing Pachuca’s 6-5 victory.
