With the aim of continuing the “institutional strengthening of security forces“and “in order to counteract the scenario of violence and criminal activity related to drug crime and organized crime”, the Government ordered the creation of the “Dr. Eusebio Gómez” Coronda Federal Prison (Unit 36)”.
The measure became official after the publication of Resolution 1364/2024 published in the Official Gazette of that date. The new The prison will have the capacity to house 464 prisoners.
“The aforementioned federal prison meets the structural conditions established in current regulations, both with regard to the infrastructure necessary for its operation, as well as the operational and security measures for the correct management and administration of the penitentiary establishment as supported by the respective technical report,” the Government detailed.
Since its opening, the libertarian administration established a “90 day period from the signing of this document, proceed to prepare the project of organizational structure and organization manual, which contemplates its functional administrative development.” After the period, the Federal Penitentiary Service must present the “Organizational structure project and Organization Manualwhich contemplates its functional administrative organization”.

The opening ceremony will take place on Provincial Route 64 and Camino de las Moras, San Jerónimo department, between the city of Coronda and the Commune of Larreche. From 10:45 the minister will lead the opening together with the Undersecretary of Penitentiary Affairs, Dr. Julián Curito the Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service, Fernando Martínez, among other national and provincial officials.
“Coronda Federal Prison marks a historic milestone for Argentine public security since it will provide concrete solutions to the prison overcrowding in the federal system“, they explained from the ministry.
