Jared Leto to play Skeletor in live-action film ‘Masters Of The Universe’

Alongside Leto, the film stars Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man and Alison Brie as Skeletor’s lieutenant Evil-Lyn.

Jared Leto Will play Skeletor in a new live-action movie Masters Of The Universe. A reboot of the franchise has been in the works since 2007, but has stalled several times with director and screenwriter changes. The live-action film was first announced as a project Netflix in 2022, with Kyle Allen of West Side Story ready to star as He-Man.

However, earlier this year, Amazon MGM announced its acquisition of the project and hired Travis Knight to direct it, with Escape Artists and Mattel Films producing. Its premiere is scheduled for June 5, 2026.

On Friday, Leto’s involvement in the film was revealed, with the actor set to take on the role of Skeletor, Eternia’s greatest supervillain.

Cast revealed for new He-Man movie

Along with Leto, the film stars Nicholas Galitzine like He-Man and Alison Brie as Skeletor’s lieutenant, Evil-Lyn. Other actors on board are Sam C. Wilson from House of the Dragon as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson from Game of Thrones as Goat Man, Camila Mendes from Riverdale as He-Man’s partner Teela, and Idris Elba like Teela’s father, Man-at-Arms.

The original series He-Man and the masters of the universe aired from 1983 to 1985 with 130 episodes and featured He-Man and Skeletor from Mattel’s popular toy line. In 1987, a live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella and Courteney Cox.

Knight’s live-action remake is separate from the animated series Master of Universe of Kevin Smith for Netflix, which features the voices of Mark Hamill, Lena Headey, Chris Wood and Sarah Michelle Gellarand shared his most recent delivery, Masters of the Universe: Revolutionin January of this year.
