Russia: four suspects arrested for plotting assassinations of senior officials on orders from Ukraine

Russia’s Federal Security Service declared the arrest for making preparations to kill senior Defense Ministry officials. According to the force, they planned explosives in a car and an envelope.

Russia’s main security agency announced this Thursday the arrest of several suspects accused of participating in a Ukrainian plot to assassinate senior military officers. The announcement came after the assassination of the head of Russia’s Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defense Troops (RCBZ) Igor Kirillov.

He Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia declared in a statement carried by Russian news agencies that it arrested four Russians accused of making preparations to kill senior Defense Ministry officials. According to the service, the alleged organizers planned to kill one of the senior officers using a remote controlled car bomb, an event that they managed to prevent.

He added that another senior military officer was going to be assassinated by an explosive device hidden in an envelope. The agency did not name the military officers who were the target of the alleged plot or the suspects. A video was released of the moment in which one of those involved places, under a car, the explosive device that was to be detonated when the car was moving.

Declaration follows death of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, who was killed on December 17 by a bomb hidden in an electric scooter parked outside his building of apartments when he left for his office. Kirillov’s assistant was also killed in the daring attack which was claimed by Ukraine and brought the conflict once again to the streets of the Russian capital.

The FSB claimed that it prevented the explosion of a car bomb.

The FSB arrested a suspect from Uzbekistan, saying he claimed to be recruited by the Ukrainian special services. Kirillov (54) was the head of the Russian Radiological, Biological and Chemical Protection Forces.

These special troops are tasked with protecting the military from enemy use of nuclear, chemical or biological weapons and ensuring operations in a contaminated environment. Russian President Vladimir Putin described Kirillov’s killing as a “serious mistake” by Russia’s security agencies, saying they should learn from it and improve their efficiency.

Russia denounced an attack by Ukraine with unmanned aerial vehicles

The Russian government announced that they suffered a attack with unmanned aerial vehicles by Ukraine. This attack mainly affected the Baltimore military airfield. The official information was delivered by Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
