The Argentine Football Association (AFA) decided today to annul the sanctions of up to four dates for players from all divisions so that the suspended footballers will be able to play the League Cup from the beginning.
The Disciplinary Court, as at the end of 2022 and 2023, took a measure that generated quite a bit of controversy by arguing in the official statement that “aim to promote competitiveness and harmony within the competitions organized by the Association, within a framework of promoting fair play values”.
In turn, they maintained that this measure will strengthen justice and equity in sports, despite the fact that it modifies the sanctions previously imposed.
With this amnesty, the main beneficiaries would be Felipe Loyola, from Independiente, and Santiago Sosa (accumulated five yellow cards), from Racing, in addition to Ignacio Shor, from Platense, and Jonathan Emanuel Cabral, from Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata.
Likewise, Nicolás Castro from Atlético Tucumán had to comply with two suspension dates, but will finally be enabled for the start of the 2025 Apertura Tournament.
Although this implementation is not new since the AFA has done it in previous years, it generated a stir among Argentine soccer clubs and fans.
