The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, spoke out through his social networks to respond to the claims, mainly from business sector, that demand a reduction in the tax burden. In his message, he highlighted: “We can only reduce taxes if we achieve a fiscal surplus.”
“Fiscal and monetary orthodoxy is not negotiable“, he stated, adding that this policy represents the greatest guarantee for the productive sectors, ensuring that Argentina will not again face the crises it has suffered for decades.
The harsh message for the provinces and municipalities regarding taxes
At the same time, he pointed out against the municipalities and provinces for the tax burden that affects the productive sector: “Hopefully there will be more and more of us who understand that the healthiest way to lower taxes is by lowering the exorbitant level of expenses that some provinces still have today. and municipalities have.” And he added: ““We have not seen any province reduce Gross Income, the worst tax.”

Dear friends, in case it is not clear, this government came to lower taxes. Only, as a result of the inherited disaster and our terrible credit history, we can only do so if we have a fiscal surplus. It took a lot to avoid hyperinflation and achieve what we have…

“Not to mention some Municipalitieswhich are directly defrauding their neighbors with municipal taxes that have no correlation with the benefits they provide, that is, contrary to what the law says,” he added.
“We build the country together, Nation, Provinces and Municipalities. Hopefully there will be more and more of us who understand that the healthiest way to lower taxes is by lowering the exorbitant level of expenses that some provinces and municipalities still have today,” the minister concluded.
Luis Caputo’s response to the countryside and the governors
The official’s reaction in his official X network account occurred hours after a meeting in which three governors of the central region made a claim to the national government for the withholdings to the countryside and questioned the stoppage of public works. It is worth remembering that it was agriculture, the one who asked the minister for a meeting to ask for a reduction in withholdings due to the complex situation in the sector.
The governors maintained that the sector is on the verge of bankruptcy, that the field “can’t take it anymore” and that the tax burden of the Nation is much higher than that of the provinces.
“Since we took office, “We have already lowered more taxes than any other government.”added Caputo, who stressed that the most important was the “inflationary tax, the one that has a direct correlation with the level of poverty.”
“It is no coincidence that poverty has decreased almost 20 points while we achieved an abrupt drop in inflation,” said the Minister of Economy.
In his message, he also highlighted the elimination of the PAIS tax, calling it “one of the most distorting,” and mentioned the reduction of tariffs, especially on capital goods.
“I want you to know that every day we analyze the country’s financial situation to evaluate the possibility of continuing to lower taxes. We don’t need anyone to remind us, because that is precisely our goal. However, any measure we take will be aligned with the collective effort of all Argentines. We will always make the greatest effort to reduce the tax burden, but without compromising macroeconomic stability”assured the official.
These statements coincide with what was previously expressed by President Javier Milei before the Rural Society, when the leaders of the sector requested the elimination of export duties. The official position is clear: The tax reduction will not come at the expense of macroeconomic stability or fiscal surplus.
