Donald Trump confirms commercial conversations with China and other countries

Trump said that the United States has commercial conversations with several countries, including China, with the aim of reaching fair agreements and soon.

The president of United States, Donald Trumphe intensified his attention to global trade negotiations by ensuring Sunday that his country is in conversations with several countriesincluding Chinato reach favorable trade agreements.

On board the Air Force One, TRump made it clear that the main priority of the United States is to achieve a “fair agreement” with Chinaalthough it does not foresee a direct conversation with the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, in the next few days. Instead, negotiations are being led by US officials who maintain contacts with their Chinese counterparts on various commercial issues.

This announcement occurs in the context of the growing global commercial tension, after Trump imposed, on April 2, a tariff of the 10% to most countries, together with an increase in the rates of some commercial partners. Although these tariffs were suspended for 90 days, the situation remains uncertain, especially after the threat of implementing higher tariffs on vehicles, steel and aluminum, which have affected both Canada, Mexico and China.

Donald Trump’s words about China

As for negotiations with China, Trump was categorical to reiterate his perception that the Asian country has exploited commercial relations with the United States for years. He strongly criticized the decision of former president Richard Nixon to normalize relations with China, considering it one of the worst decisions of his mandate.

However, in a recent interview with NBC News, Trump adopted a more optimistic tone about the possibility of reaching an agreement, noting that, despite the hardness of his approach, China is now willing to negotiate. “We have cut suddenly“Trump said, referring to the impact of his policies on trade between the two main economies of the world, and concluded that Beijing wishes a fair agreement and is willing to reach him.

Despite tensions, the US president seems to trust that negotiations with China could bring long -term benefits, and although it is skeptical about some agreements, it does not rule out the possibility that a fair agreement is reached in the near future. This position is part of the aggressive approach that Trump has adopted in its commercial policies, seeking to reduce the commercial deficit of the United States and restructure global trade dynamics in favor of his country.
