The main award of the 72nd Berlin Film Festival was received by the film “Alcarraz” by the Spanish director Carla Simon. The awards ceremony was broadcast on the event’s Facebook page.

The film tells the story of a family of farmers who grew peaches for 80 years in Alcarrás, a small village in Catalonia. However, now the heir to the owner of the land on which their estate stands wants to cut down all the trees and install solar panels in their place. Uncertainty entails a split in the family.

The Grand Prix of the jury “Silver Bear” was awarded to “Writer’s Film” by Korean director Hong Sansoo.

The award for Best Leading Role went to actress Melten Kaptan for her role in Andreas Dresen’s Rabie Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush. The tape was also awarded for the best script.

The prize for the best short film was given to Russian director Anastasia Veber for her work on the film “Trap” (TRAP)

Earlier, on February 9, film critic, Izvestia columnist Sergei Sychev said that this year the Berlinale program is not as impressive as the programs of the Venice and Cannes Film Festivals, there are no premieres of big blockbusters in the list of participants, nor contenders for the title of film of the year.

According to the expert, this happened due to the fact that, against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic, many doubted that the festival would be held offline, and not all producers dare to give their films to online viewing.

Earlier, on January 9, the Golden Globe Awards ceremony took place in Los Angeles. The event was held in a closed format.

Will Smith won Best Actor in a Drama Film. The artist received the award for his role in the film “King Richard”. Nicole Kidman won Best Drama Performance in Being Ricardo.
