On Wednesday, February 16, the political scientist, the founder of the Change movement, Valery Solovyov, was taken for questioning to the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation as part of a criminal case on extremism.
According to Izvestia, the case under Part 2 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity”) is associated with Solovey’s support for the General SVR Telegram channel, whose publications are aimed at inciting hatred against Russian authorities.
It is noted that the political scientist conducted live broadcasts with the allegedly former general of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation (SVR) “Viktor Mikhailovich”, whom he represented as the administrator of the channel. In fact, the alleged expert is a Ukrainian lawyer Viktor Yermolaev.
Also, searches were carried out in Nightingale’s apartment. Schemes for administering information resources, as well as means of communication, were confiscated.
In September 2020, Nightingale was detained at an unauthorized rally organized by him in the center of Moscow. In December 2020, the political scientist was arrested for 10 days for organizing an unauthorized rally in St. Petersburg. Later, Nightingale was fined 20 thousand rubles for spreading false information about the victims of the coronavirus in Russia.
Valery Solovey is a political scientist, former head of the public relations department at MGIMO, and an opposition activist. In June 2019, Solovey announced that he had left MGIMO for political reasons and said that he would be grateful if he was no longer associated with the institute.
