588,000 people will be able to enter universities for state-funded places in 2022. This was announced on Thursday, February 17, by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.

“This academic year – this is the 2022/2023 academic year – 588 thousand young people will be able to enter the budget, and universities provide budget places for this, 11.5 thousand places more than it was in the previous admission campaign,” he said at a press conference.

Among the leaders in terms of the number of budget places, the Prime Minister singled out Moscow, St. Petersburg, the Leningrad Region, the Sverdlovsk, Novosibirsk and Rostov Regions.

On January 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed to transfer the country’s higher education system to the “2 + 2 + 2” scheme. According to the Russian leader, this system will allow the student to adjust his future profession after two years of study, and then, already in the magistracy, after two years, choose the final direction of development. According to the president, such changes make the education system more flexible.

January 16 Rector of the Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov Viktor Sadovnichy said that the admission campaign at the university will start on June 20 and will be held mainly in a remote format.
