Argentine routes in front of a historical opportunity: the necessary incorporation of technologies

While we travel along our routes we see more and greater incorporation of technologies, but the truth is that we are still late in comparative terms with other states. And the incorporation of the necessary technologies will ultimately result in a reduction in the operating and maintenance costs of the roads, Taking them more efficient and appetizing for possible investors, let’s see how.

On the one hand, we see a growing use of automatic collection systems on concessioned routes, not only for use of IAV systems but also by the porches we see on some of our highways.

This makes not only the operation of toll collection, but also generates savings in operating costs, allowing income to be destined to expand routes as well as improve traffic flow.

To understand it well, the ratio of an automatic collection method by using electronic devices with a manual is 5 to 1 in times. And this relationship is increased with the use of porches. However, there are other technologies that would allow optimizing the conservation of the roads.

Today Argentina continues to use static scales for load control without the capacity to measure one hundred percent of the transit transit. The operation of these is also subject to the concurrent presence of the operator and the agent with sanctioning powers.

Recall that, in the Argentine Republic, the transport of road loads is predominant, representing approximately 92% of internal load transport. The total volume of mobilized loads exceeds approximately 542 million tons according to consolidated data, transporting containers, grains, cereals, wood, liquid and gaseous fuels among others.

This produces a deterioration of the road, especially in those cases in which the truck circulates with excess weight, considerably raising the maintenance costs of the pavement.

Today the Argentine Republic is facing a historical opportunity to modernize in relation to the route operation. The approval of the Technical and Metrological Regulation of automatic weighing instruments in movement of vehicles on the roads approved in 2022 (res. Sec, of Commerce 492/2022), establishes the necessary conditions for the operation of these dynamic scales.

In practice, this form of measurement of pesos transferred to the pavement will allow us to weigh a hundred percent of the load transported on our routes, without the need for an operator of these. To date, the National Road Directorate, has a single dynamic balance located on Route N ° 9, used as a pre -selection mechanism and then move on to a static weighing.

To the approval of the Regulation for the use of dynamic scales as an instrument of measurement, the bidding process faced by the National State on the road corridors of the interior of the country is added in the framework of the privatization of the concessions granted to Roads SA.

The two indicated factors are presented to us as a unique opportunity to place dynamic scales and weigh the entire transportation transported, generating in turn an improvement in the conservation of the trace and the consequent reduction of operating and maintenance costs.
