The prosecutor’s office of the Trans-Baikal Territory referred to the court the case of the murder of a newborn child by a mother. This was reported on February 17 on the website of the department.
A 28-year-old resident of the regional center is accused of a crime under Art. 106 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder by the mother of a newborn child immediately after childbirth).
Investigators found that on December 2, 2020, a woman gave birth to a girl in her apartment. Deciding that she could not support and raise a child, the mother strangled the newborn. The next day, she threw the baby’s body into a dumpster.
The identity of the perpetrator was established only a year later. According to the regional department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, during the interrogation, the woman admitted her guilt. Later, a forensic psychological and psychiatric examination confirmed that the murder was committed deliberately.
At the moment, the criminal case has been sent for consideration to the district court of the city of Chita. The maximum penalty a defendant can receive is imprisonment for up to five years.
On February 17 in Moscow, the Lublin court arrested a woman after attempting to kill a newborn. The investigation suggests that the mother wrapped the child in a bag and threw it out of the window on the fourth floor. According to Izvestia, the baby survived – he was hospitalized in the Morozov hospital.
