The Kremlin spokesman called this situation awkward and stressed that it was “not out of malice.”

And it was very organic, it was touching. Therefore, what then happened to Merkel, well, an awkward situation. Labrador Koni was Putin’s favorite and often attended meetings at the president’s country residences. The pet moved freely around the house, and Putin’s guests often treated the dog with treats.
The dog died in 2014 at the age of 15.
On December 9, 2021, Putin thanked Merkel for many years of fruitful cooperation, emphasizing her significant contribution to the development of Russian-German relations. The head of state stressed that Merkel would always be glad to see Russia.
Merkel served as Chancellor of Germany from 2005 to 2021.
