Walter and Petra Frauwallner’s winery has been one of the most successful in the country for some time. Once discovered by various trade magazines as a great winemaker talent, he was able to more than meet expectations. The cornerstone of the successful run was laid by the grandparents, who planted small vineyards for self-sufficiency. Later, parents Emmi and Willi Frauwallner pushed viticulture within their mixed farm. At the young age of 21, Walter Frauwallner took over responsibility in the wine cellar and the strategy for working in the vineyards.
It may be that the frequently used statement, according to which wine quality is primarily created in the vineyard, comes across as a bit worn out. However, it does not change the fact that the best grape material is created with a clever approach and a sensitive way of working. If, on top of that, you use solid craftsmanship in the cellar, if you give the wine time to mature on the fine lees and if you ignore the tricks of the cellar, you will be rewarded accordingly.
Supported by wife Petra and her parents, the right terroir wines are produced according to the exact DAC hierarchy of origin. Regional wines, local wines and vineyard wines. In addition, as a STK member company, there is also the Rieden classification into large STK location and first STK location. His Riede Buch is a jewel among the Styrian top locations. The 6-hectare vineyard in the immediate vicinity of the farm is protectively surrounded on 3 sides by a mixed forest, which also ensures the best microclimate. The weathered rock soil containing basalt and an optimal water supply offer the best conditions for the Pinot varieties and especially the Sauvignon Blanc.
Robert Parker and his Wine Advocate award the highest points, regularly 95 points and more, out of a possible 100. The sympathetic winemaker also landed a special hit with his 2017 dry berry selection “Gelber Muskateller Essenz” from the Stradener Rosenberg! The magazine Falstaff rightly awarded this monument of a predicate wine 100 points. Delicate touch of fine nutmeg aromas with honey and tropical fruits in combination with balanced botrytis notes in the nose, the balance continues in the most pleasant way on the palate. With stone fruit rich in extracts such as apricots and a refreshing mixture of acidity and residual sugar, this masterpiece impresses with an endlessly long finish. It couldn’t be better and congratulations!
On top of that, everyone is looking forward to the Linz Wine & Enjoyment Fair on March 25th and 26th in the Design Center: there you can taste the wines together with the Frauwallner family.
