Bioethanol: development engine for NOA and strategic bet for Argentina

From the sanction of the LEY 26.093 in 2006Argentina made a bold and strategic political decision: to bet on biofuels. Almost two decades later, we know that it was a successful public policy that transformed the productive reality of ten provinces, among which is my native Jujuy and gave rise to a new economic, genuine and federal sector.

He Bioethanol developmentin particular, it became a specific story of employment generation, industrial investment and dynamism for regional economies. In a country where many want to convince us that everything always ends failing, bioethanol is a resounding counterexample: it is a policy that worked. And that can much more.

I represent a Jujuy, the second sugarcane producer in the country. In our province and throughout the NOA, the SUCROALCOHOLERO SECTOR It is not just a productive activity: it is the livelihood of more than 57 thousand direct jobs and more than 140 thousand indirect. It is the main private employer in the region. It is the basis of a regional economy that combines tradition, innovation and requires environmental commitment.

The international context leaves no doubt: global energy crisisgeopolitical tensions and the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions again put the need to diversify energy matrices again. And in that way, biofuels are consolidated as one of the most intelligent and sustainable responses.

While other countries -As Brazil, Bolivia or Paraguay– Advance decisively in the increase in biofuel cuts, in Argentina we see with concern a setback: a national government that turns its back on this agenda, which denies climate change, which abandoned the 2030 Agenda and that withdrew to its delegation from the next World Climate Summit (COP29).

It is evident that the only north of this executive is the “fiscal balance”, at any cost and even at the expense of development, employment and the environment. Incredible but real and that course has already been revealed before our view to almost two years of management.

Biofuel sector entities ensure that the cut in the country is late, in relation to Mercosur.

But from him Congress And from the provinces, another look persists. As a national senator of Jujuy, the only voice of the opposition in the Chamber that must defend the rights of the provinces par excellence, I accompany the work that has been carrying out the Bioenergetic League Next to the Sucroalcoholero sector and support the project presented in the Chamber of Deputies to give new impulse to biofuels.

Throughout my legislative career I have promoted initiatives that promote the use of bioethanol, particularly sugar cane. Already in 2019, as a national deputy, I proposed a preference regime that contemplated the Progressive cut increase to 27.5%convinced that the growth of cane production would come from the hand of an ambitious regulatory framework, to look at the future.

What convictions led me to defend that alternative? That when we talk about Bioethanol we not only talk about energy: we talk about sovereignty, development with employment in the place of origin, territorial balance and sustainability. We talk about a country model that is committed to its people and their land.

From my bank, I will continue working tirelessly so that the Argentina Do not let this opportunity pass. Because bioethanol is present, but above all it is future. And that future, without a doubt, must start in the North Argentino.
