George R.R. Martin to launch comic book series with Marvel

Marvel Comics will publish a graphic adaptation of George R. R. R. Martin’s multi-volume novel Wild Cards. The release of the first comic is scheduled for June 1 this year. This was reported by the American magazine The Hollywood Reporter on February 18.

“My fans know that Wild Cards holds a special place in my heart. I am deeply honored that an industry giant like Marvel is ready to create a comic based on this story,” Martin admitted.

The first volume of Wild Cards was published in 1987. To date, the series consists of several dozen books, and only a small part of them has been translated into Russian. The plot is an alternative development of history after the Second World War. In this universe, humanity is facing a mysterious virus. Most of those infected die, and those few who manage to survive and not be left mutilated acquire superpowers.

In March last year, Martin announced his intention to stage a play based on his works. The production is expected to debut in 2023 on Broadway in New York before being shown in the West End of London and Australia.

Then it became known that the writer signed a five-year contract with the HBO Max streaming service and will participate in the production of series.

HBO is currently developing two prequels to Game of Thrones. So, in 2019, the channel announced the House of the Dragon series, which will focus on events 300 years before those taking place in the famous series. In addition, the company plans to film adaptation of Martin’s Tale of Dunk and Egg book series. The action of the works takes place in the same universe as the “Game of Thrones”, but 90 years earlier than the main events. Currently, neither screenwriters nor famous actors are attached to the project.
