Joint exercises of aviation and navy will be held in Crimea

Air and sea exercises will be held in Crimea. As part of the ongoing maneuvers of the Black Sea Fleet (BSF), a group of aviation from the Southern Military District was transferred to the peninsula, its concentration was completed at the end of last week.

As sources in the military department told Izvestia, Su-30SM fighters, Su-34 fighter-bombers, Su-25 attack aircraft and Su-24M front-line bombers of the Southern Military District (SMD) were deployed to Crimea to participate in the maneuvers. Also, a detachment of helicopters was relocated to the peninsula. It included transport and assault Mi-8 AMTSh, attack Mi-28 and reconnaissance and strike Ka-52.

The sources specified that planes and helicopters will take part in the maneuvers that will take place over the Black Sea. They will have to work out joint actions with aviation and ships of the Black Sea Fleet, the destruction of ships of a potential enemy, the suppression of ground targets, as well as support for an amphibious landing.
The group assembled in Crimea can perform the widest range of tasks, military expert Dmitry Boltenkov told Izvestia.

“Such maneuvers are carried out to improve the interaction between the fleet and aviation. Aircraft and helicopters can practice amphibious and counteramphibious actions and strikes against ground and sea single or group targets. Su-34 fighter-bombers can fire Kh-35 anti-ship missiles. They can easily destroy even large warships with one hit. Helicopters can check landing and counter-landing operations, as well as strikes against enemy positions. They are also effective in the fight against small-sized naval targets – the same boats, ”he believes.

The joint actions of aviation of the Southern Military District and the Black Sea Fleet from the airfields of the Crimea have been practiced for more than a year. In the spring of last year, more than 50 operational-tactical aircraft and army aviation helicopters of the Air Force and Air Defense Association of the Southern Military District and the naval aviation of the Black Sea Fleet participated in maneuvers on the peninsula.
