Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Planning Policy and Construction, said that the Moscow High-Speed Diameter (MSD) will reduce the load on the Third Ring Road, the Moscow Ring Road and radial highways. This was reported on Tuesday, February 22, on the website of the capital’s mayor’s office.
According to the official, the high-speed diameter is one of the key transport projects for the entire 23–25 million metropolitan agglomeration.
The new diameter will unite the Northeast and Southeast chords. The route will allow you to drive through the entire city, bypassing the center, in 40 minutes, NSN notes. The length of the MSD will be 68 km.
“Thanks to the commissioning of the highway, not only will it be possible to pass through the entire city from south to north without stopping at the center, but the connectivity of the street and road network will also increase. The TTK, radial highways and the Moscow Ring Road will unload up to 20%, ”the Moscow city news agency quotes Bochkarev.
He also pointed out that the MSD will have not only city-wide, but also all-Russian significance. The traffic light highway will connect five federal centers – Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Yekaterinburg and the Republic of Crimea. The continuation of the MSD in the north will be the M11 highway, which leads to St. Petersburg, and in the east it will be the future M12 highway, leading to Kazan and further to Yekaterinburg. In the south, MSD will continue the M2 federal highway to the Crimea.
At the end of January, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, announced that the construction of the MSD was at the final stage. The official noted that the creation of MSD will provide faster and more comfortable trips from one part of the city to another for millions of motorists. The authorities plan to complete the project in 2023.
