A motor rally in honor of the recognition of the independence of the republics of Donbass started in Moscow

A motor rally dedicated to the recognition of the independence of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LPR and DPR) has begun in Moscow. The convoy with the flags of Russia, the LPR, the DPR and the hashtag #we don’t throw away started at 22:00 Moscow time from the observation deck of the Sparrow Hills on Tuesday, February 22.

According to the organizers of the action – the youth public movement “Volunteer Company of Combat Brotherhood”, the route of the column will pass along Kosygin Street to Leninsky Prospekt, after which the participants will pass along the Garden Ring towards the Crimean Bridge.

As the head of the Moscow branch of the All-Russian public organization “Young Guard” Alexander Lebedev noted, it was impossible to stay away from such an event.

“Today, the youth of Moscow is holding a rally in support of the recognition of the DPR and LPR as separate entities. We, as the Young Guard, could not stand aside. About 103 cars and 300 people take part in the event. These are young people, students who share and support Putin’s actions and the course of the government,” he told Izvestia.

According to one of the volunteers-participants Alexei Borisov, he saw the run in Donetsk and Luhansk and decided to support the people’s initiative. He believes that the problem of Donbass concerns not only the inhabitants of this region, but the whole world.

“We must treat each other, the peoples with understanding and respect the decisions that people make while living in such unrecognized republics,” he added.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the LPR and DPR. Also, the Russian leader and the heads of both republics Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin signed an agreement on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance. The documents were ratified on Tuesday by both the republics themselves and the Russian State Duma.

The situation on the line of contact in Donbass escalated on February 17. In the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, heavy shelling by Ukrainian security forces was reported, including from heavy weapons. The republics announced a general mobilization and evacuation of civilians to the territory of Russia.

Since 2014, the Ukrainian authorities have been conducting a military operation against the inhabitants of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup d’état and the new government in Ukraine. At the same time, Kiev blames Moscow for the current situation. Russia has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the intra-Ukrainian conflict. The issues of its settlement are being discussed in the Minsk and Normandy formats.
