Yugoslav and Serbian director Emir Kusturica told Izvestia when his repertoire for the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Army would be ready. He also shared his impressions of his performance at the Winter International Arts Festival in Sochi.
Kusturica performed as part of the musical group The No Smoking Orchestra, with whom he had already visited Russia. The group performed songs from the director’s most famous films, such as The Testament and Black Cat, White Cat. The director arrived at the concert immediately from the plane, without rehearsing on stage.
The director said on Wednesday, February 23, that he enjoyed taking part in the festival. He noted the good organization, for which the violist Yuri Bashmet was responsible.
Answering the question when he will prepare the repertoire for the Russian theater, Kusturica said that before the end of the year he would make several performances for the Theater of the Russian Army.
After talking with journalists, the director, together with the musical group, went to the audience platform, where he sang an encore for the guests.
Earlier, on February 22, Kusturica said he wanted to obtain Russian citizenship. The director admitted that he loves Russian culture very much and feels comfortable in Russia.
On the eve of Kusturica, he accepted the offer of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu to take the post of chief director of the Theater of the Russian Army. He said that Shoigu’s offer is a great honor.
Prior to that, on August 11, 2018, Kusturica dedicated the song to Shoigu as the main inspirer of the International Army Games (ArMI-2018). At the same time, the director called the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation his friend.
