Build better and take care of costs: the challenge we can already assume

In a challenging context like the current one – with persistent rises in the construction cost index, difficulties in recovering the level of activity and more adjusted margins – it becomes urgent to rethink how we build. This need for efficiency is not only technical: it is economical.

There is a question that we cannot continue postponing: how can we build more efficiently and smarter at the same time?

Different actors in the sector have already been promoting a change in the constructive paradigm, from professionals to companies and developers that innovate in their designs, in the choice of more efficient and sustainable materials and methods. Each decision has direct impact on the economic performance of the work.

For those who are already traveling that path, the answer is at hand: it is about building with less, but building better. This implies anticipating the so -called “hidden costs” from the moment zero, and taking the definitive step towards methods and technologies that optimize both the processes and the final result.

A clear example is light construction, which allows to achieve greater benefits with lower material load. In the case of autoclave cured cell concrete (HCCA), this is generated through obtaining a material that arises from the mixture of basic raw materials subject to a autoclave curing process. This results in the formation of millions of internal and independent air microcels, creating a lighter material and with maximum advantages. The benefit of lower environmental impact is double: lower consumption of raw materials and lower energy consumption throughout the life cycle of a home.

Far from being an emerging innovation, HCCA is today a global consolidated technology, with a proven tour and an advantage that becomes increasingly relevant: it allows to reduce the use of materials without compromising quality, energy efficiency or durability. In fact, and to share an example, a square meter of HCCA bricks requires less materials than other traditional systems, and still offers higher results in thermal insulation, structural weight, ease of placement and work times.

This logic of “more with less” is not just a trend: it is a technical, economic and environmental need. A more light system means less transport costs, lower load on foundations, lower emissions and a significant reduction in carbon footprint at all stages of the constructions life cycle.

In turn, with an increasingly focused on energy efficiency, intelligent constructive solutions emerge as key allies to boost this change that crosses the sector. HCCA helps reduce the energy consumption of homes, decreases environmental impact, lowers operating costs and relieves demand on the country’s energy infrastructure.

We said at the beginning that efficiency is an economic need. Today, in a market where the value of a property also begins to be measured by its constructive benefits, by the comfort it offers and for its energy performance, more and more real estate developments integrate sustainability criteria from the beginning. Tools such as Energy Efficiency Labeling for housing are beginning to consolidate as a reference for both investors and tenants.

Our challenge as an industry is not only to innovate, but to make visible what already works, open the dialogue with architects, engineers, developers and decision -making decision, and build a common agenda that combines competitiveness, technical efficiency and environmental responsibility.

We have the opportunity – and the responsibility – to make it better build also the new economic standard of the sector.
