In 2022, the opening of the exhibition of the State Hermitage “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen in Russia” is planned. Museum director Mikhail Piotrovsky stated this today, February 24, at a press conference.
Calling the exhibition “adventurous,” Piotrovsky noted that Munchausen was a real character and served in Russia, so many real things and legendary materials remained from this event. They will be presented in the exhibition.
According to Sergey Uvarov, Candidate of Art Criticism, Izvestia columnist, such a project is in line with the current trend for complex and exciting curatorial projects.
“Museums are increasingly relying not on exhibits as such and are trying to attract viewers not by the value of the works on display, but by the story that is told with the help of these exhibits. In this regard, the idea of an exhibition about a character who is known and loved from young to old is wonderful. And even if there are no really rare, unique artifacts, you can still predict the success of the project and the attention of the public. Well, I would also like to note separately that such a serious academic institution as the Hermitage allows itself such cheerful exhibitions, ”said Sergey Uvarov.
On February 16, it was reported that paintings by Rubens, Anthony van Dyck and other objects of Flemish art from the collection of the State Hermitage Museum arrived from St. Petersburg to the capital of Tatarstan for an exhibition in the Hermitage-Kazan Center. The largest item was a box with two tapestries (tapestry) based on the works of Rubens.
