A criminal case has been opened on the fact of the threat of violence against law enforcement officers during an unauthorized rally in the center of Moscow. This was reported on February 24 in the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the capital.
It is noted that the suspect, born in 1999, was detained on the spot.
“The investigating authorities of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the city of Moscow initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Art. 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Threat of using violence against a representative of authority”),” the statement says.
According to investigators, on Friday evening, a suspect who participated in an unauthorized event in the center of Moscow, near Pushkin Square, threw a Molotov cocktail at law enforcement officers.
In the near future, it will be delivered to the subdivision of the department. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
Earlier that day, the TFR and the Moscow prosecutor’s office warned of responsibility for holding unauthorized actions and participating in uncoordinated events. It is clarified that participation in provocations entails not only administrative, but also criminal liability.
The Telegram channel of the Moscow prosecutor’s office reported that information about an upcoming public event in the center of the capital on February 24 appeared on social networks.
The press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia also announced that they had taken the necessary measures to ensure the protection of public order in the city and prevent violations of the law.
On the night of February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special operation to protect Donbass. Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya stressed that this cannot be called a war. He pointed out that the Russian authorities are still open for dialogue, but they do not intend to allow a new bloody massacre in the Donbass.
On February 21, Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the LNR and the DNR. Also, the Russian leader and the heads of both republics Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin signed agreements on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance. The documents were ratified the next day by both the republics themselves and the Russian State Duma.
The Russian leader made the corresponding decisions against the background of the escalation of the situation in Donbass.
Since 2014, the Ukrainian authorities have been conducting a military operation against the inhabitants of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup d’état and the new government in Ukraine. At the same time, Kiev blames Moscow for the current situation. Russia has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the conflict.
