Great Britain announced its intention to completely destroy the Russian economy

The British Foreign Office said that London will seek the complete destruction of the Russian economy, writes SkyNews on Thursday, February 24.

“We will not rest until the Russian economy is destroyed and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine are restored. We support Ukraine, its people and its democracy and will continue to support them economically, politically and defensively,” said the head of the department, Elizabeth Truss.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson added that “the oligarchs in London will have nowhere to hide.” He reaffirmed the government’s intention to impose sanctions on state-owned Russian banks and its readiness to support Ukrainians “economically, diplomatically, politically and, yes, militarily”, but reiterated that the success of the planned measures depended on “the unity of our allies.”

Earlier in the day, Johnson announced new sanctions against Russia. The country will freeze the assets of all major Russian banks with an immediate freeze on VTB’s assets. He noted that countries should collectively abandon Russian oil and gas, “which for too long have given President Putin leverage over Western politics.”

This is how London reacted on February 24 to the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin that a special operation would be carried out in the Donbass in order to protect the civilian population. After that, Vladimir Zelensky accused Russia of hitting the country’s military infrastructure and introduced martial law throughout the country.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that the army did not carry out air missile or artillery strikes on the cities of Ukraine. They stressed that nothing threatens the civilian population of the country. High-precision weapons destroy military infrastructure: military airfields, aviation, air defense facilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The situation in Donbass escalated on February 17. The DPR and LPR reported heavy shelling by Ukrainian security forces, including from heavy weapons. The republics announced a general mobilization and evacuation of civilians to the territory of Russia.

Since 2014, the Kiev authorities have been conducting a military operation against the inhabitants of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup d’état and the new government in Ukraine. At the same time, Kiev blames Moscow for the current situation. Russia has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the conflict.
