The last days of August they left the Argentine market of mergers and acquisitions caught between expectation and caution.
During the first semester of 2025, 38 transactions for a total value of US $ 4,080 million had been registered: an average number in amount of DEALS, but the second highest in amounts since 2017, promoted by the purchase of Petronas by Vista assets per view, the acquisition of Telefónica Argentina by Telecom, and operations in the service sectors, advertising and technology; especially between SMEs.
However, The uncertainty postelections and the volatility of the dollar changed the dynamics of one second to the other, transforming optimism into caution.
The impact
Macro stability and recent deregulations had given predictability signs. However, the electoral calendar sowed doubts that collapsed part of that trust. The dollar, which had found a relative balance, moved again, complicating the valuations. The result? A market in “Wait and see” that will not move large chips before October.
Can the Government consolidate stabilization with real support? Will credit be reactivated to boost the activity? What will be the new equilibrium point of the dollar? These are some of the premises that seem to mark the freezing of decisions today.
Be prepared for when the train passes
In this context, the best strategy is not to run behind the juncture, but to build solidity. The companies that take advantage of these months to consolidate their finances and design a growth plan, will be ready to act, whether the context accompanies or demands decisions in challenging scenarios.
What does this mean for SMEs?
1-Healthy Financials
It is not enough to earn money: you have to show efficiency. Positive Ebitda, competitive margins and circulating capital control are the first line of defense.
2-processes and well-oiled technology
Companies that do not depend on a single person, with robust systems and ordered processes, are worth more.
3- Sustainable and scalable income
It is not enough to bill, investors evaluate recurrence, diversification of customer portfolio and real expansion opportunities.
4- Have a growth plan!
Have a defined roadmap to prioritize investments, detect opportunities and make quick decisions when market conditions change.
The caution of the market transforms the situation, but should not do so with the foundations of our plan. SMEs that understand the stage and adapt without breaking their strategy, will be those that are in a position to take advantage of opportunities and respond quickly when the cards are shown on the table.
