Young people, technology and future: close the gap between expectations and reality

September 28, 2025 – 00:00

The expectations of young people about their future work and academic collide with a reality marked by the lack of opportunities. It is urgent to close this gap so that more boys can develop and specify their projects.

The gap between what young people expect and what they can finally specify is increasingly evident and problematic. This distance is not explained by lack of desire, but for economic need, the absence of sufficient vocational guidance and a labor market that offers few quality opportunities.

At the end of high school 85% of students want to continue with higher studies. However, only 38% succeeds. Something similar happens with the work: while 65% projects to get a job, in practice only 38% work, and many do so in precarious or informal conditions (according to an Argentine report for education). In addition, the youth unemployment rate is around 17%, almost triple the general unemployment rate (IDESA, based on the permanent household survey).

Faced with this panorama, it is essential to think what tools we are giving as a society, understanding that it is not an issue that affects only young people, but a central discussion that requires everyone’s attention: the future work and the preparation of who will be the workers of tomorrow.

The State has a key role in accompanying and preparing the new generations and from the Ministry of Education of the City of Buenos Aires we assume that commitment to policies and projects in that line. From the Future skills agencyfor example, through Simulation center.

The needs of young people today: how to accompany them in their development within society.

The needs of young people today: how to accompany them in their development within society.

The simulation center is An avant -garde space that has different strategic sectors laboratories, where young people can have induction and training through physical simulators, virtual and augmented reality, recreating real scenarios In areas such as industry 4.0, renewable energies, electromobility, logistics, transport, stock exchange, constructions, artificial intelligence, among others. There young people can train in a practical way, face concrete challenges and know the technologies that will mark the future of work.

In addition, the agency promotes the program I built your future, where vocational guidance tests, employability skills workshops, and personalized accompaniment are practiced. Initiatives such as these not only provide training, also generate motivation and show possible paths in a constant change.

Today few young people manage to meet their goals, so it is key to guide, train and open opportunities for more students to transform their expectations into realities. Only in this way will we move towards a more inclusive and greater growth society. And we are on that path.
