On the eve of Pancake week on Sunday, February 27, nutritionists told about which pancakes are preferable for people who are prone to weight gain, as well as for those suffering from diabetes.
According to specialist Margarita Koroleva, such people should replace wheat flour with buckwheat or bird cherry flour and add gluten-free ingredients to pancakes.
“You can cook such pancakes on water, without adding milk. And I recommend everyone to cook pancakes without the addition of cow’s milk. Such pancakes can be used with fillings that also have a low glycemic index: these can be berries, vegetables, sources of complete protein, so that a person is satiated and does not harm the body, ”RIA Novosti quotes her as saying.
In addition, in order not to harm the body, even those who do not have health problems should eat one or two pancakes in the first half of the day, said the Queen.
Overweight and obesity specialist Maira Rau added that overweight people with diabetes can also eat pancakes made with oatmeal or a mixture of whole wheat flour and premium flour. For the rest, she advised adding less oil and sugar to the dishes.
“Keep in mind the amount and frequency of pancakes: if you eat a lot of pancakes and often, then it makes sense to replace the premium flour with a healthier option, add less butter and sugar. I also recommend not to grease each pancake with butter. For aroma and taste, you can add a little melted butter to the pancake mixture, ”she explained.
In 2022, Maslenitsa week will begin on February 28 and will last until March 6.
Earlier, doctor-therapist Timur Asanov said that the best filling for pancakes is something protein-based – poultry, caviar, beef. Pancakes with jam, jam or condensed milk are considered the most high-calorie ones. According to him, overeating pancakes may cause heaviness in the stomach and indigestion. In addition, it is worth remembering that this dish is cooked in oil, which is why there is a risk of additional stress on the pancreas.
