Andrey Artemov, one of the language school students stuck at the Paris airport, revealed to Izvestia the details of the incident on Sunday, February 27.
“We are in Paris after training. We studied for a week, then came here. We wanted to take a direct flight, but it was cancelled. Now we have been at the airport for quite a long time, and I do not know what to do. For now, just thoughts. We ran out of money for food due to transplants. Here we are sitting here with things now, the guys are sleeping … We are waiting, in general, ”said Andrey Artemov from the Moscow Region.
The aunt of one of the students, Tatyana Litvinova, said that on February 19, the students, at the invitation of the Dublin language school, went to Ireland, it was a trip to exchange experiences.
“They lived there with families for about a week. Everything was in order, they had an Irish visa. We left before this difficult situation, which has now developed. They were supposed to fly home on a direct flight from Dublin with the Aeroflot airline on the 26th, ”she explained.
When the direct flight was canceled, they contacted the consulate, where they said that there would be no return flights and it was necessary to find connecting flights in order to send the children home. Aeroflot offered to take a connecting flight via Paris. The children were divided into two groups: the first of 26 people flew to Paris and managed to board a connecting flight Paris-Moscow. The second took off a day later. The plane that was flying behind them from Sheremetyevo was deployed in the air after the announcement by the French authorities that the country’s airspace was closed to Russian airliners.
“The plane turned around. Two adults and six teenage children are in the transit area of Charles de Gaulle Airport. They only have an Irish visa, which has already expired, and they cannot leave the terminal anywhere on their own, even check in for other flights in order to fly in other directions, ”added Litvinova.
On Sunday, February 27, it became known about a group of Russian schoolchildren stuck in a Paris airport due to the order of the French authorities to close the country’s skies for Russian aircraft.
On February 27, France banned flights over its territory for Russian aircraft. On the same day, several other countries closed the airspace for Russian aircraft: Germany, Italy, Sweden, Iceland, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Norway, Canada, and Spain. Earlier, Romania, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria also joined the sanctions.
Rosaviatsia Rostourism reported that the issue of the export of Russian citizens from European countries is being worked out with representatives of the relevant departments. Russian airlines are ready to fulfill their obligations to passengers and deliver them home, the ministry assured.
