The Russians, who went to Ireland at the invitation of a language school, were unable to fly to Moscow due to restrictions on the flights of Russian aircraft, as a result of which two adults and six children were stuck at the Paris Charles de Gaulle airport. The chronology and details of the incident on Sunday, February 27, were shared with Izvestia by Tatyana Litvinova, the aunt of one of the children stuck at the airport.
“On February 19, a group of students of 30 people from the Moscow region, the city of Vidnoye and the city of Podolsk, went to Ireland to Dublin at the invitation of the language school. It was a trip to exchange experiences: they lived in families and stayed there for a week, ”said Litvinova.
She stressed that the children had Irish visas and other necessary documents, and the departure from the country was official.
Initially, the children were supposed to fly on February 26 on a direct Dublin-Moscow flight of Aeroflot airlines. But on the afternoon of February 25, a message was received about the cancellation of the flight, and the children had to be taken out in another way.
“We contacted the consul in Ireland, he said that the children are safe, there will be no repatriation flights, and we must look for connecting flights on our own to take the group home,” Litvinova said.
As the interlocutor noted, Aeroflot offered a connecting flight – Dublin-Paris-Moscow. But the children were divided into two groups.
“The first group of children – 26 people – flew to Paris yesterday and was able to board a connecting flight Paris-Moscow. Today they were able to fly to Moscow, at 00:00 o’clock their parents met them. The second group of children took off on the same connecting flight – Dublin-Paris-Moscow of the Aeroflot airline, but a day later. They were supposed to fly out of Paris today at 17:50 local time,” Litvinova said.
However, the Aeroflot plane, sent for the children to the French capital, was turned back after the plane took off from Sheremetyevo Airport: the French authorities announced the closure of airspace for Russian aircraft, which was the reason for the corresponding decision.
“Two adults and six children – teenagers from 17 to 19 years old – are now in the transit area of Charles de Gaulle airport. They do not have a Schengen visa, only an Irish one, which has already expired. And they cannot leave the terminal on their own, check in for other flights in order to fly in other directions, ”the woman said.
The children’s parents are trying to contact the foreign ministries and consulates. In the current situation, the interlocutor pointed out, they can either wait for help from the state, or search for transit flights on their own. Moreover, in the group, one of the women has diabetes, and she pumps insulin.
On February 27, France banned flights over its territory for Russian aircraft. On the same day, several other countries closed the airspace for Russian aircraft – Germany, Italy, Sweden, Iceland, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Norway, Canada, Spain. Earlier, Romania, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria also joined the sanctions.
