Six films, including “Ivan Denisovich” by Gleb Panfilov, “Unclenching Fists” by Kira Kovalenko and “Medea” by Alexander Zeldovich, were nominated for the Nika Award in the category “Best Feature Film”, reported on Monday, February 28, on the website of the film award.
Kira Kovalenko, Alexander Zeldovich, Natasha Merkulova appear in the Best Director nomination? Alexey Chupov and Vadim Perelman. The acting nominations include Yura Borisov (“Captain Volkonogov fled”), Merab Ninidze (“The Case”), Pavel Derevyanko (“Accomplices”), Philip Yankovsky (“Ivan Denisovich”), Milana Aguzarova (“Unclenching Fists”), Tinatin Dalakishvili (“Medea”) and Ksenia Rappoport (“Mom, I’m at home”).
According to Izvestia film reviewer Sergei Sychev, the nominees for Nika differ little from the contenders for the White Elephant, which was presented not so long ago by Russian film critics. However, there are several significant differences.
“Firstly, one of the best domestic films of the year, Nuuccia by Vladimir Munkuev, is not presented in any category. Laureate of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, winner of the prize for directing at Kinotavr, the film was supposed to be released on March 17, but today it was announced that the rental was postponed indefinitely. Right now, even the presence of the film in the nominees could morally support the authors of the picture in a difficult situation, and remind the audience that this work exists, ”the expert believes.
In addition, the “Serials” category is not presented in “Nika”, which distinguishes it from other major awards in Russia. Also, according to Sychev, in the nomination “Best Documentary” films are presented that “are not related to the real state of affairs in the industry.”
“For example, this year both awards considered documentary portraits of famous directors and actors (“Golden Eagle” added another film about Baikal). All these are very high-quality works, but definitely not the main ones in non-fiction films over the past year, ”the film critic noted.
At the same time, “Nika” presented the nomination “Best Film of the CIS and Baltic Countries”, thanks to which the majority can at least hear the new names of little-known directors and actors.
Earlier, on February 8, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 2022 Oscars. The list of nominees included the Russian cartoon “Boxballet” by Anton Dyakov.
