Volunteers of the People’s Front continue their work in the Rostov region; they, in particular, helped reunite a family of internally displaced persons from the Donetsk People’s Republic. This is stated in a release received on March 1 by Izvestia.
Volunteers brought strollers, canes, wheelchairs and other essentials to the Zvezda temporary accommodation facility. There they met a man who came with his grandson from Novoazovsk.
According to the pensioner, his wife was unable to leave for Russia, after her husband left, she had a stroke. The man asked volunteers to assist in family reunification.
Volunteers of the People’s Front phoned social activists from the DPR, organized the safe delivery of a woman to the Russian border.
“Vladimir and his grandson were able to see Nina Ivanovna already at the border, the family was reunited. The woman was taken to the hospital under medical supervision. Nothing threatens her health, she is safe, excellent care is provided for the pensioner, ”the release states.
After the woman’s recovery, pensioners will continue to raise their grandson, since their son remained in Ukraine.
The situation in Donbass escalated on February 17, 2022. The DPR and LPR reported heavy shelling by Ukrainian security forces, including from heavy weapons. The republics announced a general mobilization and evacuation of civilians to the territory of Russia.
On February 21, Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, as well as treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with the republics. The documents were ratified the next day.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. After that, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of hitting the country’s military infrastructure and introduced martial law. He also severed diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation.
Since 2014, the Ukrainian authorities have been conducting an operation against the residents of Donbass, who refused to recognize the new government in Ukraine.
