Radio Ekho Moskvy was taken off the air. This was announced on Tuesday, March 1, by the editor-in-chief Alexei Venediktov in his Telegram channel.
Ekho Moskvy is off the air,” Venediktov wrote.
In addition, the website of the Dozhd TV channel (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) turned out to be unavailable. When you try to open it, “error 500” appears.
Earlier that day, the Prosecutor General’s Office demanded to restrict access to these resources, as they publish false information about the actions of the Russian military as part of a special operation to protect Donbass.
“The information posted by the Ekho Moskvy radio station and the Dozhd TV channel contains calls for extremism, violence against citizens of the Russian Federation, mass violations of public order and public safety, as well as for the participation of citizens of the Russian Federation in mass public events in violation of the requirements of current legislation and violent overthrow of the constitutional order,” the ministry said.
Earlier in the day, Ekaterina Mizulina, director of the Safe Internet League, member of the commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation on the development of the information community, media and mass communications, said that about 1.3 million fake publications about events in Ukraine and Donbas appeared on the Web.
On February 26, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that as the Russian Armed Forces successfully carry out the rescue operation in the Donbass, an increase in the number of fakes was noted. The department called on the media “to be vigilant and not become blind victims of Western curators of information pressure on our country.”
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his special televised address, announced that a special operation would be carried out in the Donbass in order to protect the civilian population. After that, the Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky accused the Russian Federation of hitting the country’s military infrastructure and introduced martial law throughout Ukraine. He also said that Kyiv is breaking off diplomatic relations with Moscow and withdrawing its diplomats from the embassy.
On February 21, the Russian leader signed decrees recognizing the independence of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LNR and DNR). Also, the President of the Russian Federation and the heads of both republics Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin signed agreements on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance. The documents were ratified the next day.
