It is clear that today the specialists of the IT sector are part of one of the most important and thriving industries in the country. and the salaries received, whether in Argentine pesos or in foreign currency, accompany this growth. For example, in the software industry – which employs about 125,000 people – the average remuneration in the sector places them within the group of 8% of the better paid salaries added to a 20% increase between September 2021 and February 2022, according to recent studies. There is talk of salaries within the range of $160,000 to $240,000, compared to a private sector whose average is $79,000.
However, and it must be recognized, abroad is more attractive in terms of salary, so how do local companies deal with this reality to attract talent?
Iterating, from the initial interview, on constant learning, challenges, innovation, motivation, teamwork, opportunities for growth and values with which they identify, are key to achieving the best results and generating that ideal environment for people to grow. and develop. In other words, paying special attention to the intangible is part of a comprehensive benefits proposal, which is added to the economic one. So, if the salary is not matched to the desired level, talent turnover is offset by the possibility of professional development and growth while companies continue the hard work of matching salaries to be increasingly competitive.
In Argentina, 9% of workers in the sector have a dollarized salary and collect it through different platforms, such as Paypal. It must be taken into account that the movement of this money, to make it effective in Argentina, always implies expenses that are not contemplated at the time of making the final account of “pocket money”. And that the rules tend to change constantly with regulations on digital platforms, new taxes that arise, or expenses associated with justifying the origin of income. Even to this are added expenses in social work or equipment that in this type of labor relations are usually the responsibility of the worker. Notwithstanding the reasons why one ends up choosing one or another job and/or country, it derives from personal factors.
There is data from official entities that shows that from January 2020 to July 2021, the wages of workers in companies affiliated with the business chamber increased by 107%. On the other hand, freelance IT workers who work abroad received an increase of 30% for what I explained above. If the official dollar is taken as a reference, the average salary in the sector went from US$1,642 to US$1,758; with the savings dollar there was a variation from u$s 1,149 to u$s 1,231; and, with the blue dollar, it went from US$905 to US$910.
Another player for remuneration is cryptocurrencies. Companies dedicated to cryptocurrencies and to providing technological services with blockchain are revolutionizing the labor market in Argentina and from Latin America. According to data released by salary platforms, job searches in this sector increased more than 631% in the last two years.
In short, the remarkable thing is that 90% of the sector earns well and works well. A company that offers remuneration above the highest percentile on the salary scale and that, in turn, creates a space for containment and learning for the team, has many chances of winning when it comes to competing with foreign companies. The most important thing is the added value that the company has, being transparent and honest with the objectives and always thinking of people first. Argentina has an enormous possibility of attracting investment and generating more employment. Those of us who are part of the IT industry have to work together to achieve it because it would ultimately achieve better salaries, better compensation and a better quality of life for people.
There are no formulas because people and teams change, the industry changes and you have to adapt to all of that. It is essential to create a good work space and environment, provide opportunities for professional development and growth and, above all, constantly iterate the benefits package according to people’s needs.
