A practical example of the contradictions of the import trap

Due to the import trap, a metallurgical SME cannot buy supplies abroad that are not manufactured in Argentina, for a total of u$s6,570. But the paradox is that without these components it cannot supply a large company that manufactures compressors for the gas and oil sector and an export worth millions of dollars is in danger.

What the company must import are two absolute pressure sensors, with an FOB price of u$s1s260 each one and three mass flow controllers, MKS brand, with FOB price of u$s1,350 each, which totals an outflow of foreign exchange per u$s6,570.

These components are imported from the United States or Europe and are not manufactured in Argentina. We seek that the Government has the capacity to discern when an import is essential, because what the obstacles end up doing is that they stop entering millions of dollars from exports.

That of this SME is just one example of the dozens of claims that are received every week in the chamber, while for the World Cup in Qatar thousands of dollars leave the country every day, which do not return to the country in any way.

The lack of dollars paralyzes the industry, a sector that has the capacity to generate jobs and foreign exchange for Argentina.
