At the local level, the State and the different actors that participate in defense of awareness in this matter (business chambers, unions, NGOs, among others), must intervene with creativity and audacity to encourage a drastic change in behaviors, values, preventive criteria and penalties. In other words, we must raise awareness that regulations are not a form of authoritarianism. On the contrary, abiding by them supposes a sensible act of consideration for one’s neighbor and oneself.
It is also essential to educate, promote better driving habits and that each driver is responsible for the technical aspects of their vehicles: the use of seat belts and the use of child restraint systems in cars, as well as the use of helmets. in the case of motorcyclists and cyclists, they are acquired habits that mean an effective measure to reduce risks in accidents.
In this direction is that from our insurance company we have communication programs, with the main mission of raising awareness about responsible driving, as well as the use of safety elements. This is how we get involved with the community by carrying out specific actions to prevent accidents. Through dissemination, training and various initiatives with allies in the public and private sectors, we develop actions with the commitment to contribute to the reduction of the national statistics of accidents and deaths due to improper driving.
Likewise, we must obtain the commitment of the State, at all levels, to improve circulation routes, carry out controls and sanction negligent conduct. On the other hand, poorly managed control systems, unfulfilled sentences by transgressors and the lack of action by authorities cannot be an excuse to stop working on road safety.
On this National Road Safety Day we insist on the need for the State to assume responsibility for implementing a robust policy on the matter. There is much to do and from the different organizations we must work together to collaborate with general actions. The objective must always be the protection of the citizenry. Among all we can achieve it.
