The Hofbauer-Schmidt family of winemakers has been passionate about wine for eight generations

A wonderful piece of land for winegrowers who live their passion for wine every day in their work in the vineyard, in the cellar and in sales.

Petra, Leopold and their son Johannes Hofbauer-Schmidt cultivate their gardens in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner and make their ecological contribution.

The Weinviertel company clearly focuses on the excellent DAC line with classic and single site wines, although Johannes is particularly enthusiastic about the Sauvignon Blanc from his internship in New Zealand. Apparently, the native terroir forms the optimal conditions for the aroma variety, which is becoming more and more popular. With gravel, sand, loess and a high lime content, the Ur-Danube provided the ideal subsoil. The climate is characterized by warm to hot days and cool nights. The proximity to the forest district This means that the aroma is stored optimally, which is best suited to late-ripening, especially the Sauvignon Blanc. And when the motivated vintner works meticulously with the grape variety in the garden and in the cellar, then success is a must.

This is what happened, among other things, at this year’s Lower Austrian state awards. Johannes Hofbauer-Schmidt achieved the state victory with his Sauvignon Blanc from Riede Mühlweg from the great 2021 vintage. A refreshing, piquant representative of the variety, which emphasizes the typical primary aromas of some paprika, currant and elder and delights the palate with its cool, refreshing acid structure and great taste balance. On top of that, the current state winner shines with a very good price/performance ratio.
