Bolted joints are critical to the industry, both for the performance of the turbine and the safety of those working around it. The primary installation method for equipment mounting, construction, and maintenance is bolting. The pieces fit one on top of the other, having a central axis of rotation. In addition, they have a system that limits the maximum speed at which the blades can rotate, thus preventing them from becoming detached.
Having the equipment monitored and connected makes it possible to obtain data in real time, to be able to cross-check and analyze it. It is the teams, in this instance, that report the information. Tools that, today, are characterized by being wireless and flexible. This is something new in smart manufacturing: the ability to connect all electronic tools and assembly processes on one universal platform.
This platform helps the technical team to analyze the data remotely and from there interact with the people who are working in person to make the necessary adjustments. Among other things, making use of the information allows identifying a possible failure in the equipment based on the presence of abnormal operating parameters. And, in this sense, recommend an action and carry out preventive maintenance.
In parallel, having a QR code on each tower makes it possible to view all the information and construction characteristics of the mill. This document number or mother code is linked to a database that shows all the magnitudes of torque that are generated in the manufacturing process, that is, during its assembly. This is what makes it possible to know if your parts had a tightening indicated in the installation phase and subsequently carry out traceability in pursuit of their quality and improvement.
Big Data generates a large amount of additional information, however, not everyone is prepared to turn data into intelligence. The benefits obtained can be summarized as: increased activity time, reduced defects (error-proofing), improved productivity (through data analysis) and improved human interaction with the work to be done.
