Youth participation is important for the critical organization of social life; the individual and collective realization of a community project and the strengthening of integration processes. But, in addition, it is necessary to strengthen the ability of young people to be actors in their own lives; actors who can choose, judge and be able to carry out projects themselves that allow them to develop social relationships. The participation of young people in places where decisions that affect their lives are made is a constitutional right. And also a means to improve the way of life. Stimulating the participation of young people in the political and social space responds to the need to strengthen democratic practices and values in citizenship.
We recently had an episode to analyze, when the new president of the HCDN was inaugurated, deputy Camaño decided to allude to the womanhood of the new president of the Lower House as her main “virtue” to highlight; She gave us the opportunity to open a much deeper debate that goes beyond the discussion about who deserves to occupy the position in question:
doShould we rejoice at the appointment of a woman to an important position, for the simple fact that it is a woman and not a man?
A progressive would answer yes, without hesitation, sheltering himself in the argument that, by appointing a woman, he would be paying off a historical debt towards the female sex (even if this implies incurring in cases of positive discrimination) and that, therefore, , we would be talking about something positive and even progress in terms of equality and human rights.
It sounds unfeminist that the important thing when selecting a person to occupy a position of power should not have to do with their sex but with their training, their ability, their merit and their intellect.
It is not surprising that for the inhabitants of a country whose officials decide to fight against sexist violence by inaugurating red benches or purple dots on the corners, instead of debating the possibility of femicides being jailed for life, the simple fact of positioning a woman in a prominent position can be considered revolutionary.
Without going any further, there is a part of the youth represented by the current hegemonic feminism that insists on blaming a supposed patriarchy for all the ills that afflict it, even though for years and very happily we have already enjoyed equality before the law for men. and women in Argentina. They are the same ones who applaud quotas for women and homosexuals as if belonging to the female sex or to the gay community represented a disability that prevents us from reaching the same place as a heterosexual man.
