3 Trainings Every Leader Should Have

The importance of having balance in the various aspects of life lies, among other things, in achieving consistency between what one says and how it is shown. And this is relevant because, even if we try hard, if what we say and what we do are not aligned, it will come to light. Does this dialogue ring a bell?

If you ever went through a similar situation, it has an explanation: we are 93% non-verbal communication, but in order not to dwell on that topic here, I invite you to read this note in which I delve into this important aspect to take into account so that you can see how the body gives us away.

No one can convey harmony, balance, resolution, or whatever they want to convey if they don’t practice and exercise it. To achieve it, there are no mysteries or impossible; the key is TO TRAIN. And I like to use this word to show that it is not something that is acquired from one day to the next, much less that depends on the outside, but rather it is a practice that must be sustained over time, with commitment and responsibility.

What type of training should any leader who wants to achieve excellence have?

Beyond working on their communication skills and other power skills, there are three types of training that the most outstanding leaders, starting with Tony Robbins (leader mentor, if any) share:

We hear daily about the benefits of physical activity, the World Health Organization (WHO) details that it contributes to disease prevention, reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety and even improves reasoning, learning and judgment skills. In addition, without health we will not be able to carry out the activities we need to get where we want to go, or meet our goals. And any good leader has to take into account everything necessary to achieve it. For that, physical well-being is essential.

Even if we are reluctant, we must make the effort; first because we are not only training the body but also -and above all- our willpower. And, furthermore, because when we exercise we increase the production of endorphins, which give us a wonderful feeling of well-being.

Everything we say to ourselves, what we believe about ourselves, has a direct impact on our lives. “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right,” said Henry Ford. And he was right (for more information on this topic, I share this video where I talk about the generative power of language and how to empower your internal conversations).

Coaching, in this sense, becomes an indispensable tool to work on the internal dialogues of business men and women in their day to day. In fact, the most important companies in the world are already on this path: a Hay Group study estimates that between 25% and 40% of the Fortune 500 have coaches to accompany their “star executives” to achieve greater effectiveness.

Training our spirit is essential to be aligned between what we say, want, think and do -and be consistent with it-. This is because it allows us to have a moment of introspection, we listen to ourselves, we calm our minds and our emotions, we focus only on being aware and present in the here and now.

There are different ways to carry it forward: I, for example, have meditated 30 minutes a day for 13 years, but there are many techniques to connect with ourselves. Its benefits are numerous, whether you choose mindfulness, recognized for its great results against anxiety, or practice conscious breathing, do guided meditations or yoga, the important thing is that you set aside a few minutes a day to enter into that silence, to calm down. your mind, to feel, listen to your interior, to connect and stop the daily hustle and bustle. Without fear of being wrong, to be a good leader it is necessary to have temperance.
