With this in mind, at WeWork we propose that hybrid work, both for women and men, creates conditions that allow a better balance between the workload and the domestic responsibilities of all people. The flexibility provided by this type of model, together with constant education on the importance of gender equity, promotes a better distribution of household responsibilities and consequently helps reduce the labor and wage gap.
This approach to the opportunities offered by hybrid jobs is supported by global research. According to the study “What workers want: from surviving to thriving at work” released by ManpowerGroup, employees are increasingly looking for more flexibility, 64% want to move to a four-day work week, 45% want to choose the schedule of entry and exit and 35% want to choose where to work according to their needs.
Furthermore, it reveals that a thriving workplace is one in which moms and dads are given the support they need to navigate uncertain schedules with less stress. The same research indicates that working mothers and fathers want support from their employers for family care. 55% indicate the importance of support in the care of children and 52% that of older relatives.
In this sense, current trends show the importance and need for the emergence and expansion of this type of work modality, in which flexible space solutions offer alternatives to entrepreneurs and organizations to better manage time and preserve the possibility of doing individual or collaborative work in equal conditions.
In my opinion, we are at a key moment that gives us the opportunity to promote a more than necessary social transformation. Within the framework of International Equal Pay Day, companies must not only rethink what contributions they can make to promote equitable access to job opportunities; but also what tools they make available so that their collaborators can succeed professionally, without sacrificing their income, their mental health and the balance of personal and work life.
